It’s true that the range hood isn’t as powerful as others but it gets the job done. On the high-speed setting, you’ll get 350 CFM suction operation.
This should be more than enough for most, but of course it’s your decision as to whether 350CFM suits your needs.

This range hood is perfect for if you have limited space. It’s not difficult to get it to fit into an existing cabinet so installation is pretty simple.
The 500 CFM motor is efficient but doesn’t make a sound any higher than 65dB. But it could be quite noisy if you don’t do a good job of securing the vent pipes.

It is also one of the less powerful range hoods. It reaches up to speeds of 250 CFM. But, as I mentioned earlier, you may not actually need that much power when you cook, so this speed may be perfect for you.
Quietest Island Mount Range Hood
The Cavaliere is one of the more powerful range hoods. But, fortunately for us, more power doesn’t necessarily mean more noise.
What we love about this range hood is that even though it’s more powerful, it’s actually less noisy at its max settings than some of the other less powerful range hoods.
The noise level ranges from 25-56 dB (56dB on the highest speed or suction setting). Since the hood has a single chamber centrifugal blower, this allows for the range hood to operate really quietly.
Is this island mount range hood durable? That’s a good question to ask since we all want something that’s built to last.
The Cavaliere range hood is made with commercial grade heavy duty 19-gauge stainless steel constructionso it will last for years. I personally loved that the stainless steel the manufacturers used is rust proof.
When you think about all the air that the range hood sucks up the good quality stainless finish really helps to keep it looking good.
Keep in mind that the Cavaliere 36” only accommodates an 8’ ft to 9’ ft ceiling. If your ceiling is any higher than 9’ ft, you’ll have to buy a chimney extension.

The Cosmo comes with dishwasher safe filters, so you don’t have to stress about spending a long amount of time cleaning.
It's one of the quietest island mount range hoods with a relatively low noise output of only 65dB.
Since you can choose from 3 fan speeds you will also be able to control how quiet things get in your kitchen.
With the Cosmo’s multi-speed motor and it’s 380CFM suction, it will definitely do what it was made to do.
How To Make A Range Hood Quiet
How to Reduce Range Hood Noise:
What if you already bought a range hood and it’s just way too loud? Before you go out and buy another one, let’s see what some of the things are that we can to do reduce range hood noise.
Run your range hood at lower speeds
This solution is a pretty obvious one, but it’s worth mentioning. Before you decide to throw away your range hood, try using it on a lower setting. You might think that it won’t do as great a job on a lower setting, but you’ll be surprised at how well it works.
Buy an inline blower
Since an inline blower sits inside your ductwork and not the range hood itself, it’s much further away from your cooktop. This makes it a lot quieter than a local blower. But you need to make sure that your hood is compatible with an inline blower first.
Keep the filters clean
The filters in your range hood can end up with a grease buildup if they’re not washed frequently. If your filters are dirty, this affects your range hood’s blower. If the blower is dirty, it will affect the efficiency of your range hood, causing more noise than necessary.
Tighten loose parts on your range hood
You may not think that any parts are loose in your range hood, but it would be worth it to check. Sometimes, the screws on the blower and even on the sides or back of your hood can become loose and then it makes a rattling noise. All you have to do is make sure the screws are tightened.
Buy a silencer
A silencer is used to muffle sounds and can lower noises coming from your range hood by 25-50%. It can be attached to a remote inline or external blower which will reduce the sound that comes through the ductline.
The quietest range hood is one that's turned off. If you have a quiet ceiling fan in your kitchen then you may not even need to use the range hood if you're just doing some light cooking.
How To Choose A Quiet Range Hood
Buy a range hood that is 6 inches wider than your stove top
Why is this important? Since the hood will cover a greater area over your stove top, the unwanted odors and gases will be captured more easily. So essentially, you could run your range hood on a lower, quieter setting that exhausts enough air to successfully ventilate the area.
Get a range hood that allows you to choose from at least 2 speed settings
Having a range hood that lets you choose from different speeds is important, since you can control how quiet or how loud things get in the kitchen. You can use the high-speed settings for when you are doing some heavy-duty cooking. Once you’re done you can set it back down to a lower speed.
Check the sones and dB figures
The lower the sone or dB noise figure quoted by the manufacturer, the quieter the range hood. For best comparisons make sure you have the noise output figures at maximum fan speed.
Less power means less noise
Only buy the fan capacity that you actually need. The lower the CFM rating of the range hood, the quieter it is likely to be.
Look for multiple fan speeds
Sometimes you need maximum extraction for a short burst and then you have to put up with more noise. If you have multiple fan speed settings then you don't have to run at maximum all the time. The lower fan speed options give you more control over the noise output.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many sones is a quiet range hood?
The quietest range hoods put out around 1.5 sones or 33.5dB. Bear in mind that some manufacturers quote the noise output at maximum fan speed while others cheat a little by quoting the lower fan speed noise output.
It also helps to have an idea of how quiet that noise level sounds like. A quiet blender is around 90dB so that gives you an idea of how much quieter these range hoods are.
What is a sone?
A sone is a unit for measuring the loudness of sound, much like a decibel. Checking the sone levels of your range hood is important because it will be the deciding factor on whether your range hood will be quiet or not. You can see a sone to decibel conversion sheet here.
Range hood manufacturers sometimes give sone figures because they're linear and easier to relate to than dB figures. A sound output of 2 sone sounds twice as loud as a sound output of 1 sone.
What CFM do I need from my range hood?
CFM is short for cubic feet per minute. CFM basically refers to how many cubic feet of air the range hood exhausts every minute at full speed. So, the higher the CFM, the more air your range hood will ventilate. You can look at this article to see how you can calculate CFM.
We reviewed some budget options above but in reality the quietest range hood is going to cost you more than your average unit. Choose one with no more extraction power than you actually need and with multiple fan speed settings. This will go a long way to reducing range hood noise in your kitchen.
