Keep an eye out for some additional information that you’ll want to keep in mind when buying your range hood and how to make it quieter.

Without further ado, let’s get to the reviews.

Quietest Wall Mount Range Hood

ZLINE 30' Convertible Vent Wall Mount Range Hood in Stainless Steel (KB-30)

With this range hood, durability is one of its greatest assets. It’s steel on steel construction allows it to last longer and most importantly, function quietly. At only 56dB it's one of the quietest wall mount range hoods on the market.

It ventilates at speeds of up to 400CFM and you can choose from 4 different speed settings. This is great, since you can have more control over how much noise it makes.

Something we liked about the range hood is that you can choose from two different charcoal filters. So, you basically have the option to either vent out the air in your kitchen or recirculate it.

If you prefer baffle filters, you can also choose to use those for your range hood. It comes with stainless steel dishwasher-safe 3-layer baffle filters. Baffle filters are easy to clean and dishwasher safe.

One thing you need to be aware of, is that buying extensions for this range hood is not cheap. So, when you’re deciding on whether to buy it or not, make sure that it can fit in your kitchen.

This range hood fits ceiling heights 7 ft. to 12 ft.  but it does come with an optional chimney short kit or extension kits.

IKTCH 36'Wall Mount Range Hood, 900 CFM Ducted/Ductless Range Hood with 4 Speed Fan, Pure Stainless Steel Range Hood 36 inch with Gesture Sensing & Touch Control Making life Smarter IKP02R-36

The IKTCH 36” range hood uses stainless steel baffle filters. If you do some research on baffle filters, you’ll see that they’re more durable and as we’ve already mentioned in previous reviews, easier to clean. This is both time-saving and cost-effective.

Even though this range hood is one of the most powerful range hoods we’ve reviewed in this article it's also one of the quietest wall mount range hoods. The noise levels reach a fairly quiet 65dB at high speed.

What I particularly liked about this range hood, is that the company offers 10 years technical support on the motor and 5 years technical support on the switch control and LED lamps.

They’ve specialized range hood for solutions for over 10 years. It’s good to know that if you ever have any problems, you can contact the manufacturers for support.

Most of us love any product or appliance that is energy saving. If lights don’t use a lot of electricity, you get to spend less money.

The two 3w LED lights that come with the range hood are energy efficient and still bright enough to light up your stove top at night.

The modern design of the range hood is an elegant reflection of modern kitchen design trends.

COSMO COS-63175S Wall Mount Range Hood with Ducted Convertible Ductless (No Kit Included), Ceiling Chimney-Style Stove Vent, LEDs Light, Permanent Filter, 3 Speed Fan in Stainless Steel (30 inch)

There’s no need to worry about lots of noise coming from this range hood. It reaches a max noise level of 65dB and you get to control the speed too.

With airflow that reaches up to 380CFM you can be sure that the Cosmo will do an excellent job at ventilating your cooking space.

The filters are easy to clean. Like the other range hoods we’ve reviewed, all you need to do is put the filters in the dishwasher.

The Cosmo range hood is a more affordable model that still offers you good quality. Since this range hood uses high lumen LED lighting it’s energy-saving, which means you save too.

Something we liked about the Cosmo range hood is that it’s not complicated to use. It comes with a 3 prong, 120V power cord, so all you need to do is plug it in.

What’s great about the model is that you also have the choice of converting your range hood to being ductless. But the carbon filter kit is sold separately, which is a downside.

On the other hand, if you’re willing to spend a few extra bucks then you can enjoy having that option to go ductless and have your air filtered.

Winflo 30 In. Convertible Stainless Steel Wall Mount Range Hood with Aluminum Mesh Filters and Push Button Control

The Winflo range hood is a good option if you want a low noise range hood at a budget friendly price. The Winflo range hood (constructed of premium stainless steel) stands out amongst others because of its adjustable and telescoping chimney.

It can fit a 7.5 Ft. - 8.5 Ft. ceiling. If you’ve got a high ceiling, you can also buy a chimney extension which is great. All the hardware you’ll need is provided so you can be sure of an easy installation.

It’s got those special energy-saving LED lights we love as well as easy to operate button controls. The manufacturers have ensured that the range hood operates quietly while still being effective at what it needs to do.

It’s true that the range hood isn’t as powerful as others but it gets the job done. On the high-speed setting, you’ll get 350 CFM suction operation.

This should be more than enough for most, but of course it’s your decision as to whether 350CFM suits your needs.

While we couldn't find an official noise level figure, it operates fairly quietly even at maximum fan speed.

Quietest Under Cabinet Range Hoods

FOTILE Pixie Air UQS3001 30” Stainless Steel Under Cabinet Range Hood, 800 EQUIV. CFM Kitchen Over Stove Exhaust Vent with LED Lights Dual AC Motors and Mechanical Buttons

Since this range hood has dual-fan ventilation, it can cover 6 square feet of cooking area without any hassle.

It comes with 600 LUX LED lights that helps you to see exactly what you’re doing while you’re cooking. Great for if you have a kitchen that doesn’t get much light.

One of the things we really love is that this range hood is powerful, but you don’t have to worry about it disturbing the peace. It reaches 800CFM but operates at an impressive 37dB noise output. This makes it the quietest range hood by a long way.

It’s so easy to clean this range hood. For those of us that don’t have much time to clean in a day, we really appreciate having appliances that can be cleaned quickly.

The capture shields are dishwasher-safe and easy to attach and detach. Since the range hood has a stainless-steel surface, it can be wiped clean in less than a minute.

And you don’t need to worry about buying expensive products to clean it. Some paper towel and a simple cleaning product will be enough to get the job done.

Overall, the Fotile Pixie Air range hood is designed to be an effective and efficient ventilation system for your kitchen, meaning that clearing gases and unwanted odors will never be easier.

Cleaning the range hood is easy, so you don’t have to waste too much time. It operates quietly, only reaching 1. 5 sone operation at normal speed.

It’s true that this range hood is a bit more expensive than many of its fellow range hoods. But it’s worth it for the quality you’ll be getting. It also comes with a 5-year warranty.

Hauslane, Chef Series 30' PS18 Under Cabinet Range Hood, Stainless Steel | Pro Performance | Contemporary Design, Touch Screen, Dishwasher Safe Baffle Filters, LED Lamps, 3-Way Venting

Another quiet range hood worth considering is the Hauslane Chef Series 30”. It’s one of the cheaper range hoods. But don’t let its price fool you into thinking it doesn’t do its job.

It’s not necessarily the quietest range hood when it's working at top speed. But, with this range hood, you have 6 speed settings you can choose from. You get to make the range hood quieter simply by selecting the lowest fan speed.

The touch screen makes cleaning even easier, since you don’t have to worry about dirt on your hands getting in between the buttons.

What about cleaning the filters? All you have to do is take out the baffle filters and run them through the dishwasher. It’s as simple as that!

One of the things that stood out for us when reviewing this range hood, was the fact that it has such powerful suction. This really guarantees that it’s going to do a good job of removing unwanted odors and gases.

Because the range hood allows you to choose from 3 different ways of venting, it’s more likely to fit your current ductwork. This means you get to save money if you're replacing an existing range hood.

Don’t be overly concerned about whether the range hood will be stylish enough for your kitchen. The digital screen gives it a modernized look besides it’s design.

And you won’t be confined to choosing one color. You can choose from matte white, matte black, and stainless steel.

COSMO COS-QS75 30 in. Under Cabinet Range Hood with 500 CFM, Permanent Filters, LED Lights, Convertible from Ducted to Ductless (Kit Not Included) in Stainless Steel

This range hood is perfect for if you have limited space. It’s not difficult to get it to fit into an existing cabinet so installation is pretty simple.

The 500 CFM motor is efficient but doesn’t make a sound any higher than 65dB. But it could be quite noisy if you don’t do a good job of securing the vent pipes.

They could end up vibrating against other parts in the range hood and this would contribute to noise. So, just be careful when you are securing the vent pipes.

What we like about this range hood is that you’re guaranteed that it will last. Because of its powerful fans you'll probably be using it mostly on the lower fan speed settings, reducing wear on the moving parts.

You’ve got 4 speed settings to choose from, so you can adjust them according to your cooking needs.

Broan-NuTone BCSD130SS Glacier Range Hood with Light, Exhaust Fan for Under Cabinet, Stainless Steel, 30-inch, 300 Max Blower CFM

This range hood is worth considering if you’ want a quiet range hood but you're on a smaller budget. It’s one of the cheaper range hoods, but don’t let its price fool you into thinking it doesn’t do its job.

Designed with a smooth-flow blower wheel design and high flow filters, you can be sure that the range hood will operate quietly. At normal speed, it operates at 1. 5 sone (33dB).

One of the downsides this range hood has is that it has extremely limited speed options. You can only choose from two speed settings which means you don’t have a lot of control over how quietly it ventilates.

It is also one of the less powerful range hoods. It reaches up to speeds of 250 CFM. But, as I mentioned earlier, you may not actually need that much power when you cook, so this speed may be perfect for you.

Quietest Island Mount Range Hood

CAVALIERE 36' Inch Island Mounted Range Hood 442 CFM

The Cavaliere is one of the more powerful range hoods. But, fortunately for us, more power doesn’t necessarily mean more noise.

What we love about this range hood is that even though it’s more powerful, it’s actually less noisy at its max settings than some of the other less powerful range hoods.

The noise level ranges from 25-56 dB (56dB on the highest speed or suction setting). Since the hood has a single chamber centrifugal blower, this allows for the range hood to operate really quietly.

Is this island mount range hood durable? That’s a good question to ask since we all want something that’s built to last.

The Cavaliere range hood is made with commercial grade heavy duty 19-gauge stainless steel constructionso it will last for years. I personally loved that the stainless steel the manufacturers used is rust proof.

When you think about all the air that the range hood sucks up the good quality stainless finish really helps to keep it looking good.

Keep in mind that the Cavaliere 36” only accommodates an 8’ ft to 9’ ft ceiling. If your ceiling is any higher than 9’ ft, you’ll have to buy a chimney extension.

COSMO 668ICS750 30 in. Island Mount Range Hood with 380 CFM, Soft Touch Controls, Permanent Filters, LED Lights, Tempered Glass Visor in Stainless Steel

If you liked the 63175S 30 Inch 380 CFM Wall Mount Kitchen Range Hood then you’ll probably like the Cosmo 668ICS750 30 in. Island Mount Range Hood since they’re both quite similar.

The difference between the Cosmo 668ICS750 30 in. Island Mount Range Hood and the Cavaliere are very slight.

But one thing I think most of us would appreciate is that the Cosmo range hood is a bit lighter than the Cavaliere. So basically, set up will be a bit easier with the Cosmo range hood.

The Cosmo comes with dishwasher safe filters, so you don’t have to stress about spending a long amount of time cleaning.

It's one of the quietest island mount range hoods with a relatively low noise output of only 65dB.

Since you can choose from 3 fan speeds you will also be able to control how quiet things get in your kitchen.

With the Cosmo’s multi-speed motor and it’s 380CFM suction, it will definitely do what it was made to do.

How To Make A Range Hood Quiet

How to Reduce Range Hood Noise:

What if you already bought a range hood and it’s just way too loud? Before you go out and buy another one, let’s see what some of the things are that we can to do reduce range hood noise.

Run your range hood at lower speeds

This solution is a pretty obvious one, but it’s worth mentioning. Before you decide to throw away your range hood, try using it on a lower setting. You might think that it won’t do as great a job on a lower setting, but you’ll be surprised at how well it works.

Buy an inline blower

Since an inline blower sits inside your ductwork and not the range hood itself, it’s much further away from your cooktop. This makes it a lot quieter than a local blower. But you need to make sure that your hood is compatible with an inline blower first.

Keep the filters clean

The filters in your range hood can end up with a grease buildup if they’re not washed frequently. If your filters are dirty, this affects your range hood’s blower. If the blower is dirty, it will affect the efficiency of your range hood, causing more noise than necessary.

Tighten loose parts on your range hood

You may not think that any parts are loose in your range hood, but it would be worth it to check. Sometimes, the screws on the blower and even on the sides or back of your hood can become loose and then it makes a rattling noise. All you have to do is make sure the screws are tightened.

Buy a silencer

A silencer is used to muffle sounds and can lower noises coming from your range hood by 25-50%. It can be attached to a remote inline or external blower which will reduce the sound that comes through the ductline.

The quietest range hood is one that's turned off. If you have a quiet ceiling fan in your kitchen then you may not even need to use the range hood if you're just doing some light cooking.

How To Choose A Quiet Range Hood

Buy a range hood that is 6 inches wider than your stove top

Why is this important? Since the hood will cover a greater area over your stove top, the unwanted odors and gases will be captured more easily. So essentially, you could run your range hood on a lower, quieter setting that exhausts enough air to successfully ventilate the area.

Get a range hood that allows you to choose from at least 2 speed settings

Having a range hood that lets you choose from different speeds is important, since you can control how quiet or how loud things get in the kitchen. You can use the high-speed settings for when you are doing some heavy-duty cooking. Once you’re done you can set it back down to a lower speed.

Check the sones and dB figures

The lower the sone or dB noise figure quoted by the manufacturer, the quieter the range hood. For best comparisons make sure you have the noise output figures at maximum fan speed.

Less power means less noise

Only buy the fan capacity that you actually need. The lower the CFM rating of the range hood, the quieter it is likely to be.

Look for multiple fan speeds

Sometimes you need maximum extraction for a short burst and then you have to put up with more noise. If you have multiple fan speed settings then you don't have to run at maximum all the time. The lower fan speed options give you more control over the noise output.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many sones is a quiet range hood?

The quietest range hoods put out around 1.5 sones or 33.5dB. Bear in mind that some manufacturers quote the noise output at maximum fan speed while others cheat a little by quoting the lower fan speed noise output.

It also helps to have an idea of how quiet that noise level sounds like. A quiet blender is around 90dB so that gives you an idea of how much quieter these range hoods are.

What is a sone?

A sone is a unit for measuring the loudness of sound, much like a decibel. Checking the sone levels of your range hood is important because it will be the deciding factor on whether your range hood will be quiet or not. You can see a sone to decibel conversion sheet here

Range hood manufacturers sometimes give sone figures because they're linear and easier to relate to than dB figures. A sound output of 2 sone sounds twice as loud as a sound output of 1 sone.

What CFM do I need from my range hood?

CFM is short for cubic feet per minute. CFM basically refers to how many cubic feet of air the range hood exhausts every minute at full speed. So, the higher the CFM, the more air your range hood will ventilate. You can look at this article to see how you can calculate CFM.

We reviewed some budget options above but in reality the quietest range hood is going to cost you more than your average unit. Choose one with no more extraction power than you actually need and with multiple fan speed settings. This will go a long way to reducing range hood noise in your kitchen.
